Q. Do cell phone towers have a backup power source in case of a power outage?
A. On July 16 2020, the CA Public Utilities Commission issued a requirement for a 72 hour backup power requirement to ensure that a minimum level of service and coverage is maintained during disasters or power outages in Tier 2 and 3 High Fire Threat Districts. Providers have 12 months to implement. See
